Capsule Bio

Hyun Ju Shin turned pro in 2001 and played for a few years on the KLPGA. She moved over to the JLPGA a few years later, and had a lot of success, becoming one of the top Korean golfers on that tour. In 2006, she finished 5th on the money list and had a win on tour, but only finished 12th on the money list in 2007 with no wins.

Shin has represented Korea at the Kyoraku Cup several times, and has had a fair amount of success there. She is somewhat of a secret weapon, in fact, having won all her matches in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

In 2008, she played at the ANZ Ladies Masters. In the rain shortened event, she had at least a share of the lead most of the week until the final hole, when she missed a short putt to lose the tournament to British player Lisa Hall.

Back in Japan, Shin played well on tour, and by April had notched her first win of the season at the Studio Alice Ladies Open She also came close to winning at the Meiji Chocolate Cup, losing to Japanese superstar Yuri Fudoh in the closing holes.

In September, the JLPGA Major called the Konica Minolta Cup wound up as a battle of the Shins, as Hyun Ju and KLPGA superstar Ji Yai Shin battled for the trophy. It all came down to the final hole, with the two Shins tied for the lead. Hyun Ju made a birdie, Ji Yai a bogey, and Hyun Ju captured the Major crown.

Shin's 2009 season was not nearly as strong. In 30 starts, she managed 6 top tens, but also missed 7 cuts. As a result, she finished 33rd on the money list.

Shin had another mediocre season in Japan in 2010. She did claim her 5th career win, but it was one of only four top tens all year. She finished 24th on the JLPGA money list.

Shin finished 31st on the JLPGA money list in 2011. She did not win a tournament on tour. She notched a decent tie for 25th finish at the LPGA's Mizuno Classic.

Shin was 34th on the 2012 JLPGA money list. She came from behind to win at the Nichirei Ladies in June, her only victory on tour that season.

Shin finished 70th on the JLPGA money list in 2013. In 2014, she did even worse, finishing 82nd on the money list with about 7 million yen earned. Her best finish that season was a tie for 21st.

Shin retired after the 2014 season and sometimes works as a golf commentator for Korean TV when covering JLPGA events.
