Ok Hee Ku was in many ways the pioneer of Korean
women's golf. She was the first Korean player to win on the LPGA
tour when she captured the 1988 Standard Turquoise Classic. She
played regularly on the LPGA tour for much of the late 80's and
early 90's. These days she plays mostly in Japan, although she has
wound it down in the last couple of years. As recently as 2005,
however, she was one of the top players on tour.
She has had 19 wins in Korea since 1980 and 23 international
wins since 1985 (mostly in Japan, but including her LPGA victory).
She held the record for most KLPGA wins in a season, five, until
it was broken in 2007 by Ji Yai Shin.
Last year, Ku was the first golfer inducted into
the brand new KLPGA Hall of Fame. Se Ri Pak joined her there in
2007.
