Jeong Jang's Homecoming

Pages 1, 2, 3, 4
Right after winning the British Open, JJ returned home, where she received a heroine's welcome! Take a peek at some of what she went through when she returned home!

When Jeong Jang set up her schedule earlier this year, she must have seen the two week break after the British Women's Open as a perfect excuse to return home, see old friends, and relax before the final push of the season. But in the meantime, fate intervened in a big way. JJ ended up winning that tournament, the final Major of the year, and what must have looked at first to be a little jaunt home turned into a victory tour for the conquering heroine, the latest Korean golfer to break the Major barrier on the LPGA tour.

It's pretty clear that she had no idea what to expect from her trip home. In her post victory press conference in the UK, she was asked how she would be received back home. She replied that there were already several Korean superstars in women's golf, and was skeptical that she would be treated at that same level. Needless to say, she was in for a bit of a shock. From start to finish, she was accorded the kind of rock star status that Se Ri Pak, Grace Park and other successful Korean golfers have gotten on their trips home.

After getting off the long, long flight from Britain, she got her bags, went through customs... and was confronted with a horde of well wishers and media, there to welcome her home. In these photos, you can see her answer questions for the reporters at the airport.

JJ's older sister, Eun Kyung, had been beside herself with joy when she found out that Jeong had won this title. Here you see her with her boyfriend learning the good news.

Here, her mom and Eun Kyung greet JJ on her return.

Still at the airport, JJ holds up a letter she received from the President of South Korea, congratulating her on her achievement. I think by this time she was beginning to suspect that her victory was a big deal in her home country!
